I’m Gab

I was introduced to pottery in the late ’60’s and worked with clay for about 6 years! While pottery was my life…I had to give it up to actually make a living!

When I retired, I re-discovered pottery and found it to be very meditative, calming, and required me to focus on what was right in front of me.

My objective is to make fun - yet functional work – with no 2-pieces the same. Adding some humor and bright colors gives each piece a unique look and feel – and conveys different messages to each person who sees my work. I “throw” on the wheel – as well as “hand-build” pots.

I’ve joined up with a terrific group of artists who represent a variety of mediums, and together we’ve formed ARTWORKS!

Working together, ARTWORKS is an excellent place to find gifts and unique items to purchase and share with your family and friends!

Reach out, I’d love to hear from you.

Step 1

You THROW a ball of clay onto the wheel, centering it and then “opening it” to start forming a pot. Once you’ve got the shape you want, it is set aside for a couple of days to dry out to a “leather hard” stage.

How I Work

Step 2

Once it is “leather hard”, it is trimmed of any excess clay. Also, the bottom is trimmed to form a “foot.” If you want to carve a design on the pot, this is when that happens. Then you let the peice dry completely.

Step 3

When it is completely dry it is loaded in the kiln for “bisque firing. The kiln heats to around 1900o – and then cools back down enough to open the kiln and handle the pots. This step takes about 30-hours.

And this is the result!

Step 4

Glazing – At this stage, the piece can be decorated using colored underglazes with a final glaze poured over – making it ready for the final firing to about 2100°. This takes another 36-hours to finally get to see the finished results!
